Kitchen Notes : Maikko / Sceptica on Paranormal AI

Maikko, que l'on suit depuis pas mal de temps dans Electaumatisme, nous décrit par quels moyens il est parvenu à nous pondre cette mixture de dark-electro expérimentale très intéressante sous son projet Sceptica en attendant de pouvoir écouter les 2 EP suivants à venir.

Maikko who we follow since a long time now on Electraumtisme, describes by which means he managed to give birth to this very interesting blend of experimental dark-electro under his Sceptica project. Expect to hear the next 2 EPs to come.

Gears and software

What gears/software did you use for EP Trilogy ?

Software : Cubase MAC OS, Ableton, Sugarbytes Bundle, TAL Noisemaker, Synapse Dune2, Tyrell, Native Instruments Bundle

The last new addition was the Deepmind12. New devices do not make more creative ;-)

Sound Design

Do you use/tweak presets ?

Presets often bring ideas. But then I endlessly screw around with the devices so that it becomes a different sound.

Writing/composing method

What would be your main writing/composing method ? Do you start classical rythm/bassline then arrange around it ? Do you already have structure in mind ? Do you improvise, record sessions then select ?

Often Ableton gives me good ideas. I just layer samples until it really grooves. I love the automatic time stretching/warping. But since I still have a linear song structure, I export the samples again and continue working in Cubase. Yes this may be cumbersome, but Midi synths and automations I do there rather.

Producing/mixing method

Do you produce/mix in the box or do you use mainly external gears (effect/comp/eq...) ?

I do everything in the box. I also have an extra setup chain for mastering (mainly T-Racks plugins).

What is your most painful / enjoyable step in track production ? Sound design, arrangement, mixing, mastering ?

The arranging always takes way too long, or in other words, finding the ending point is difficult ;-)
